Massage Therapy in St. Clair West, Toronto

Massage therapy has its own assessment, consent and provider scope.

It may support selected muscular comfort goals, including some jaw-related tension, but it cannot rule out tooth infection, structural damage, joint pathology or a medical cause.

Massage therapy at Regal Heights Dental Centre in St. Clair West is separate from dentistry and provided within the treating professional's regulated scope. It may support selected muscular comfort goals—including some jaw-related tension—when dental and medical causes have been assessed and a coordinated plan is in place. Patients may request care with Takayoshi Munemoto when RMT services are available.

Coordinated care when useful

For jaw, neck or facial concerns, communication between the massage therapist and any dental provider involved helps clarify goals, avoid duplication and ensure each clinician understands their role in the plan.

Dental infection, cracked teeth, joint pathology, referred pain from a dental source and medical causes of facial or jaw pain cannot be ruled out through massage alone. When a symptom has not been assessed, dental or medical evaluation should precede complementary care. Massage is most useful when it is part of a coherent plan that has already identified the muscular component of a concern.

What an appointment may include

  1. Health history and goal review

The RMT takes their own history, including the location and pattern of symptoms, medications, recent injury or trauma, skin conditions and other relevant medical information. Each appointment has its own assessment, separate from any dental records.

  2. Consent and explanation

The treatment area, techniques, expected sensations and any specific considerations are discussed before treatment begins. Consent can be withdrawn or adjusted at any time during the session.

  3. Treatment

Techniques may address the muscles of the head, neck, shoulders and jaw region depending on the assessment and goal. For jaw-related concerns, this may include muscles that attach near or inside the mouth.

  4. Intra-oral techniques

Any technique performed inside the mouth requires specific prior explanation, consent, appropriate hygiene procedures and demonstrated provider competence. It is not automatic and should be agreed before the appointment.

  5. Review and follow-up

The provider discusses findings, any follow-up recommendations and how progress toward the intended goal will be measured.

When assessment should come first

Please note

Some symptoms should be clinically evaluated before massage therapy begins or continues.

Tooth pain, facial swelling or a swelling that has appeared recently—particularly near the jaw or under the chin—may indicate a dental or medical source requiring immediate assessment. Progressive weakness, numbness or tingling in the face or jaw should be medically evaluated. Jaw locking, a sudden change in how the teeth come together or severe acute pain following trauma may need imaging and dental or surgical review before any soft-tissue work.

Call 911 or seek emergency medical care for breathing or swallowing difficulty, rapid or spreading facial swelling, major facial trauma or any other life-threatening symptom. Do not delay emergency care in favour of a massage appointment.

Coordinating a jaw-care plan

When muscular tension is one identified component of a jaw concern, massage therapy may complement dental assessment, physiotherapy and education. Goals should be specific enough to measure.

Fees, insurance and CDCP

Massage therapy is billed separately from dental treatment at Regal Heights. It is a distinct service under the RMT's regulated scope.

  • Extended-health coverage for massage therapy depends on the provider's registration and the individual plan
  • Receipts are issued by the treating RMT; confirm format and provider details when booking
  • CDCP is a dental benefit program and does not automatically cover RMT services
